Facility Operations/Security: Food/Beverage Management
Director of Food & Beverage - Traverse City Beach Bums (Traverse City, MI)

The Traverse City Beach Bums are looking for a qualified individual to be responsible for the overall food service operation, including all concessions for gamedays and special events.  Please note, this is not an internship.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

• Develop long and short-range financial statements consistent with Beach Bums objectives

• Develop new menus for the concessions that incorporate ballpark classics with local favorites

• Creates menu & beverage list prices, and is responsible for the selection of products and décor of items used within the ballpark’s concession areas

• Responsible for purchasing products to fill special requests (birthday parties, party patio groups, etc.) ensures accurate quantities of food and beverages are ordered

• Monitors activities of employees to achieve objectives and ensures adequate staffing

• Investigates all food quality and service complaints

• Supervision and training of game day staff and non-profit groups

• Responsible for overseeing daily preparation and shut down processes

• Oversee concessions, picnic and suite catering operations

• Handling guest relations especially with groups

• Oversees daily stocking and inventory of all concession areas, including post-game inventory

• Maintaining clean and safe concession stands, monitoring all concession equipment with repairs as needed

• Preparing and maintaining daily, monthly and seasonal reports

• Preparing employee schedules, overseeing time card management

• Maintaining employee files and staff evaluations

• Monitoring, meeting and communicating all health code and liquor control laws

• Maintaining inventory reports • Assisting as needed with concessions operations

• Establish and meet department budgets, monitor food and labor costs on a daily basis, establish vendor relationships, maintaining proper inventory levels and ensuring the cleanliness of all food areas

OFF-SEASON RESPONSIBILITIES -- Work in front office with sponsorship/advertising sales. Meet monthly sales goals

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

Minimum of two years’ management experience in multi-unit food and beverage operation is required; pervious stadium related experience of similar size or larger venue is strongly preferred

• Must have experience with operational financial management accountability and budgeting

• General knowledge of the game of baseball

• Good time management skills

• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications such as Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint required

• This position requires standing for long periods of time and the ability to lift 50 lbs. or more

• Bachelor’s Degree in Hospitality, Restaurant, Food Service management or related field is preferred

• Excellent verbal and communication skills Working Conditions/Special Physical Requirements

• Stand or walk for long periods of time • Routinely exposed to extreme hot/cold weather conditions

• Required to work flexible schedule based on the needs of the business

This is a full-time position. This person will be required to work a full-time schedule that includes regular office hours (Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m.) on non-game days and during the baseball off-season.  On game days, the day generally begins at 9:00 am and ends after the game (sometimes as late or later than 11 pm).  The schedule varies and will include nights, weekends and holidays.  The Beach Bums 2017 game schedule is 48 home games.  Currently four special events are being planning.

Food & Beverage Internship (2017 Season) - Traverse City Beach Bums (Traverse City, MI)

The Traverse City Beach Bums offer an outstanding internship program where college students or recent college graduates can gain valuable insight and knowledge in the professional sports industry.

The intention of the Traverse City Beach Bums internship program is to provide an extensive hands-on approach to career development that assists young adults with the selection of appropriate careers. The Beach Bums offer work positions that are meaningful and compatible with interns’ education along with their desired career.

Food and Beverage Internship
Start Date: May 10, 2017 (Earlier if able) $700/month stipend
Duties: Include but are not limited to:

  • Taking orders from various food suppliers
  • Stock the various areas of the Concession Department (Concession Stands, Beer Rooms, Ice Cream Rooms, Grills and Suites)
  • Take inventory of food/beverage items prior to each game (final inventory after game)
  • Oversee and train a staff of 45-65 concession employees
  • After a home-stand clean up the areas and get prepared for the next set of games
  • Involved with the hiring and scheduling of employees
  • Learn the POS system that is used 
  • Help out in any other areas where needed

GROUP SALES Internship -- Start Date: February 1st or sooner  END Date: May 15th or later

The Traverse City Beach Bums Professional Baseball Club is looking for a dynamic, high-energy personality for the position of Group Sales intern for the 2017 off-season season. Those who complete our internship and training program will be strongly considered for a full-time position at the end of the program or upon graduation.

JOB DESCRIPTION: This internship will primarily expose students to ticketing, sponsorship sales, event planning, promotions, and customer service, but will cover all facets of a professional baseball team’s front office.  

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Actively sell group outings, group tickets, and hospitality packages:
      - Seeking and implementing best sales and service practices
      - Networking at outside events
      - Lead generation
• Develop and plan nightly events
• Renew group accounts; establish and maintain strong relationships with key group contacts
• Coordinate and execute a minimum sales goal per day on any and all potential customers through cold calling, prospecting and referrals from current customers
• Meet weekly with General Manager and provides accurate updates on prospecting activity, sales performance, outside appointments, event recaps, and account management
• Conduct sales related activities in the field and the office as assigned
• Other duties as assigned

HOURS:  

  • 8:30 am to 5:30 pm Monday through Friday (off-season hours)
  • Weekend events as required

Intern Salary: $500/month stipend plus commission on closed sales

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Work directly for Director of Merchandise
  • Assist with planning, marketing, and execution of the Beach Bums merchandise and promotional items for the Traverse City Beach Bums Beach Bums and outside events
  • Assist with planning, ordering, and execution the promotions for all 48 Beach Bums home games
  • Create and sell marketing campaigns to help promote local businesses
  • Contribute to the Beach Bums website, web store, actively participate in the team’s social media efforts
  • Assist with field preparation and general stadium maintenance and upkeep 
  • Organize and attend outside promotional events and assist with grassroots marketing efforts as needed
  • Other duties as assigned by the General Manager

HOURS:  

  • Non-game days 9:30 am to 6:00 pm Monday through Friday, Saturday 9:30 am to 2 pm
  • Game days 9:30 am until the game is over (generaly 11 pm or later)

Internship Summary: To learn all aspects of the ticket and group sales operation of the Traverse City Beach Bums under the mentorship of the Director of Ticketing.  Exposure to all areas of ticketing included but not limited to; effectively prospecting, presenting and following through with customers. Develop and enhance relationships with current fans and sponsors. Assist in other departments with particular projects as requested or required.

Hours: Interns must be available to particpate full-time, including evenings, weekends and holidays.  On non-game days the day generally is 9:30 am to 6 pm Monday through Friday, Saturday 9:30 am to 2 pm, (plus possible evenings, weekends and holidays for player/driver/mascot appearances and other special circumstances.) On game days, the day generally begins at 9:30 am and ends after the game (sometimes as late as or later than 11 pm.)  The Beach Bums 2017 home game schedule is for 48 home games.  


Qualifications: Must be outgoing, tactful, courteous, and professional in an atmosphere of many demands and frequent interruptions. Must be a team player with excellent interpersonal, phone, and organizational skills. Must utilize high-impact customer service skills to ensure customer loyalty. Ability to perceive problems, suggestions, and trouble-shoot solutions proactively. Manage game day staff, including scheduling, monitoring, and problem solving.

Ticketing system knowledge, and understanding of baseball and the industry as well as computer skills is a plus.

Compensation: The Ticket Intern position is a full-time, seasonal position with the Traverse City Beach Bums organization.  Commission is available on group and full party patio sales.  This position is from May 1st (or sooner) through September 3rd, 2017.  The candidate will earn a stipend of $600 per month (paid bi-monthly) for each month he/she is employed by the Beach Bums, with the opportunity to earn college credit.
