Baseball Operations: Athletic Trainer/Physical Therapy/Doctor
Athletic Trainer - 2017 Baseball Season - Traverse City Beach Bums (Traverse City, MI)

Evaluates physical condition and advises and treats Traverse City Beach Bums players and coaches to maintain maximum physical fitness for participation in athletic competition: Prescribes routine and corrective exercises to strengthen muscles.

Recommends special diets to build up health. Renders first aid to injured players, such as giving artificial respiration, cleaning and bandaging wounds, and applying heat and cold to promote healing. Calls physician for injured persons as required. Wraps ankles, fingers, or wrists of athletes in synthetic skin, protecting gauze, and adhesive tape to support muscles and ligaments. Treats chronic minor injuries and related disabilities to maintain athletes' performance. May give heat and diathermy treatments.

THIS POSITION IS FOR THE 2017 BASEBALL SEASON, MAY 1ST THROUGH SEPTEMBER 5TH, 2017 AND THROUGH POST SEASON ACTION IF ANY (possibility of mid-September).  

Requirements
• Provide daily care and prevention of athletic injuries during Beach Bums warmups & games 
• Provide athletic training responsibilities for all remaining Beach Bums games (August 11 through Sept 6 and beyond if there is post season action). Duties include, but are not limited to: prevention, evaluation, treatment and rehabilitation of athletic injuries.
• Various administrative duties include, but are not limited to: documentation of athletic injuries and immediate communication with general manager and field manager; assisting with team travel; assisting with player travel; assisting baseball staff with various administrative duties; making player doctor appointment where & when necessary
• Must have strong interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with a wide range of individuals including members coaching staff, players, front office staff and team physician
• Other tasks as directed and outlined by the Beach Bums General Manager

Qualifications
• Proficient in injury assessment, treatment and prophylactic care as it pertains to baseball sports medicine
• Work experience in baseball or with professional baseball players preferably with experience on field or in an athletic training room setting

Additional Comments
Athletic trainer must have a degree from a four-year college and National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA) certification
• CPR/First Aid for the Professional Rescuer/ AED
• Ability to travel extensively throughout the baseball season
• Ability to walk and / or stand for entire shift
• Ability to work long hours, evenings, and weekends required
• Effective communication with both co-workers and guests

This is an ideal position for a new ATC looking to get some excellent experience under his/her belt.  Position pays salary (depending on experience), plus per diem when traveling with the team. Housing is not included.

The intention of the Traverse City Beach Bums internship program is to provide an extensive hands-on approach to career development that assists young adults with the selection of appropriate careers. The Beach Bums offer work positions that are meaningful and compatible with interns’ education along with their desired career.

Food and Beverage Internship
Start Date: May 10, 2017 (Earlier if able) $700/month stipend
Duties: Include but are not limited to:

  • Taking orders from various food suppliers
  • Stock the various areas of the Concession Department (Concession Stands, Beer Rooms, Ice Cream Rooms, Grills and Suites)
  • Take inventory of food/beverage items prior to each game (final inventory after game)
  • Oversee and train a staff of 45-65 concession employees
  • After a home-stand clean up the areas and get prepared for the next set of games
  • Involved with the hiring and scheduling of employees
  • Learn the POS system that is used 
  • Help out in any other areas where needed

General Internship Description –  The general intern is a wide reaching internship that provides a challenging look into the business of baseball.  The general intern’s role is multi-dimensional providing support to different departments. 

Primary Responsibilities

·  Learn departmental procedure, answering Beach Bums phones, assisting front office staff, assisting customers and transferring sales calls to appropriate departments

·  Participate in planning and managing special activities, work with the promotions department as needed

·  Contribute to the Beach Bums website, actively participate in the team’s social media efforts

·  Assist in the tracking of current marketing tools (ex: save & organize all newspaper and magazine advertising); organize newspaper articles on players

·         Oversee the P.A. Booth – organize game day music, enter statistics for both the home and visiting team, coordinate P.A. announcements and video message board

·  Work with Director of Broadcasting and Media on press stat packs, coordinate interviews with players and media

The Traverse City Beach Bums are looking for a motivated person to join our franchise located in the great city of Traverse City for a seasonal position in Professional Baseball. The Beach Bums are part of the independent Frontier League.  Learn handson groundkeepingt at one of the nicest minor league ballparks in the midwest!

The Beach Bums desire a person with a hunger to be in professional baseball and learn the business. Our internship is designed to provide the employee with training and experience of field upkeep and maintenance along with other aspects of minor league baseball. The role of this position is to assist in the day to day operations including but not limited to mowing, field repair, irrigation trouble shooting and repair, fertilizer application, equipment maintenance, and stadium maintenance. Requirements:

Job Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for generating and developing new business through lead lists, cold calls, networking events, speaking engagements, etc.

Develop and enhance relationships with current fans and sponsors. Assist in other departments with particular projects as requested or required.

Hours: Interns must be available to particpate full-time, including evenings, weekends and holidays.  On non-game days the day generally is 9:30 am to 6 pm Monday through Friday, Saturday 9:30 am to 2 pm, (plus possible evenings, weekends and holidays for player/driver/mascot appearances and other special circumstances.) Qualifications: Must be outgoing, tactful, courteous, and professional in an atmosphere of many demands and frequent interruptions. Must be a team player with excellent interpersonal, phone, and organizational skills. Must utilize high-impact customer service skills to ensure customer loyalty.
