Sports Information Intern - Frontier League office - Frontier League office (Sauget, IL)

The Frontier League office is looking for an intern for 2015 season.  This position would work directly with the Deputy Commissioner and the media/public relations directors for our 14 teams. 

Duties include, but are not limited to:

Daily updates of www.frontierleague.com and league social media platforms

Verify the accuracy of team rosters

Serve as the liaison between teams and Pointstreak, our statistical provider

Verify the accuracy of box scores submitted by official scorers

Track game information each night (attendance, start of game, length of game, ejections)

Answer phones and process mail in the league office

Answer e-mail messages sent to our general account

Format the 2015 media guide and coordinate with the printing company

Fill orders placed through the Frontier League's on-line store

Oversee voting for the mid-season All-Star Game and post-season awards

Communicate with team public relations directors and broadcasters regarding league events and milestones

Prepare press releases on significant league events

The ideal candidate will have experience with a computerized official scoring program, have basic webpage formatting skills, and have writing experience.  The candidate should have access to housing in the metro St. Louis area.  Night and weekend availability is required.  Candidates must have completed at least two years of college classwork.  From April 1 through May 13, the majority of the work will occur duirng the day. Once the regular season begins, most work will take place on evenings.  Hours are flexible and can be adjusted around college classes and/or other employment.  The majority of work can be done remotely. 

The target start date is Wednesday, April 1.  Along with arranging for college credit, a $200 monthly stipend is available.  The position will run through Monday, September 7, with preference given to candidates who can assist through the conclusion of the playoffs in late September.

General Internship Winter/Spring - Joliet Slammers (Joliet, IL)

The Joliet Slammers are seeking individuals who are looking to gain experience in the sports industry.  The Slammers are a member of the Frontier League and play all home games at Silver Cross Field located in downtown Joliet.

We are looking for individuals who would like to gain industry experience and learn this business through a variety of tasks primarily focused on the sales department.  Projects may include but are not limited to designing a partnership program for specific clients, representing the Slammers at various community events with or without our mascot, database entry, writing of press releases, driving sales at offsite events and promotional appearances.

Additional skills not required but beneficial include graphic design, maintaining/constructing a website, various media and marketing needs.

Candidates must be able to earn college credit and hours may vary based on candidate’s availability.  Slammers are looking for a minimum of 15 hours a week for all interns.  This is an unpaid internship

Summer Internship: Broadcasting - Lake Erie Crushers (Avon, OH)

The Lake Erie Crushers are looking for interns for the 2015 summer baseball season (May 2015-September 2015. As a Lake Erie Crushers’ intern you will be given the opportunity to experience and partake in the broadcasting aspect of how a professional baseball team operates. 

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Communicate interesting story lines and commentary while accurately describing the game to listeners on air with Broadcaster, Andy "Bull" Barch.
  • Compile and distribute game notes, stats and starting line-up.
  • Communicating through all Social Media outlets
  • Prepare game recaps each night to distribute to the media at the conclusion of the game.
  • Serve as the main liaison with the radio station.
  • Produce, coordinate and log all sponsor ads and reads during the broadcast.
  • Assist the Play-By-Play Broadcaster in writing press releases and stories for the webpage and program as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Experience in sports play-by-play and color broadcasting
  • Knowledge of all applicable baseball Rules and Regulations
  • Skill in operation of control board, remote broadcasting and other related production equipment is liked but not necessary
  • Strong writing skills
  • Knowledge of Social Media
  • Candidates must be reliable, detail oriented, able to problem solve and think on their feet, juggle and prioritize multiple projects at one time to ensure completion in timely manner, a strong work ethic and a team work mentality.
  • Efficiency in Microsoft Office and Outlook is required
  • The position starts mid May and concludes at the end of the season, early September.

  • Selling tickets to walk-up fans at the ticket office window.
  • Processing single game and group orders.

  • Assist the Box Office Manager with the supervision of game day box office staff.

The Lake Erie Crushers, located in Avon, OH, are looking for a Concessions Intern for the 2015 summer baseball season (May 2015-September 2015).The Crushers are seeking college students, who are passionate about working in the sports industry to fill an internship position in concessions for the 2015 summer term. Interns will work directly with the Director of Concessions, learning all aspects of food services at a professional sports venue. Interns will also get an inside look at the business of baseball, gaining experience in all areas of a professional sport team’s front office operations, including ticketing, sales, marketing, media relations, promotions, and merchandise.

The Lake Erie Crushers, an independent league baseball team located in Avon, OH, are seeking a Merchandise Intern to help oversee the team’s souvenir store, the “Fan-Attic," for the 2015 summer baseball season (May 2015-September 2015). This is a full-time position and requires availability during all Crushers’ home games, as well as normal office hours (M-F 10am-4pm). This position will give you the opportunity to manage a retail operation, and learn how a professional baseball team operates. 

Responsibilities

  • Store merchandising, product display, inventory levels, and store cleanliness
  • Maintain online storefront including adding new merchandise to the website, updating inventory levels, and fulfilling orders
  • Bring a positive, helpful attitude to every point of contact with customers
  • Opportunity to manage store employees, including training, scheduling, and leading the performance of all associates
  • Bring new, creative ideas to the table in regards to merchandise and promotions for the Fan Attic
  • Preparing all reconciliations and deposits for the store as well as reporting shortages/overages
  • Ability and desire to go into the community, make sales calls, and plan and execute promotional nights throughout the season

The Lake Erie Crushers are looking for accounting interns for the 2015 summer baseball season (May 2015-September 2015). As a Lake Erie Crushers’ intern you will be given the opportunity to experience and partake in the financial aspect of how a professional baseball team operates. 

Summary:

Oversees all accounting and financial reporting functions. These functions include event settlements, account reconciliation, financial statement compilation and payroll. Further duties include Human Resources coordination and assisting the Accountant with budgeting and financial reporting as needed.


Qualifications:

  • Currently attending, or graduated from, an accredited university. (Business major- Accountancy)
  • Passion to work in the sports industry
  • Ability to think outside the box, and bring new ideas to the table
  • Maintain a professional demeanor
  • Strong organizational and problem solving skills
  • Enjoy working as part of a team
  • Knowledge of Quickbooks preferred, or similar accounting software

Summer Internship: Stadium Operations - Lake Erie Crushers (Avon, OH)

The Lake Erie Crushers, located in Avon, OH, are looking for interns for the 2015 summer baseball season (May 2015-September 2015). The Crushers are seeking college students, who are passionate about working in the sports industry to fill an internship position in stadium operations for the 2015 summer term. Interns will get an inside look at the business of baseball, gaining experience in all areas of a professional sport team’s front office operations, including ticketing, sales, marketing, media relations, promotions and merchandise. This internship will work directly with the Assistant General Manager, Operations.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Recruiting, scheduling and managing game day employees.
  • Training employees on the Crusher Policies and Procedures Manual.
  • Establishing and maintaining the day-to-day operation of our guest service plan.
  • Programming and supervising specific areas of the ballpark, such as our Kids Zone.
  • All facets of fan relations – i.e. comments, requests and suggestions.
  • Creating and maintaining a clean, safe and fun ballpark for all fans.
  • Assisting in inventory controls and purchasing to ensure that the facility is adequately stocked for all events.
  • Pursuing and coordinating all aspects of ballpark rentals such as concerts, high school and college games, etc.
  • Assisting with the management of ballpark security and implementing ideas and requests of ballpark security staff.
  • All facets of employee supervision, including janitorial services and in-game custodians/matrons.
  • Serving as the liaison between the Crushers and various subcontractors.
  • Assisting in all facets of preventative maintenance for the ballpark.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Candidates must be reliable, detailed oriented, able to problem solve, able to efficiently multi-task, have solid communication skill and writing ability, a strong work ethic, stellar customer service skills and a team work mentality.

Job Title: Summer Intern

Company Description: The Rockford Aviators professional baseball team will be entering their 23rd year as a franchise as a member of the Frontier League.  Our goal is to provide fun and affordable family entertainment to baseball fans in the Northern Illinois/Southern Wisconsin area.

Internship Overview: This position is designed to give interns experience in every aspect of professional sports including, but not limited to the following: Ticket Operations, Ticket Sales, Group Sales, Merchandising, Marketing and Promotions, Community Relations, Stadium Operations, and Concessions. The Rockford Aviators expect interns to consider themselves as part of the staff. Within minor league baseball, the front office staff performs duties at all levels of management and maintenance. From time to time, staff members are required to help sell tickets, work in the gift shop, help in concessions, answer phones, interact with players and coaches, pull tarp and several other tasks in addition to their primary duties. Everyone who works in minor league baseball wears many different ‘hats’. A willingness to go above and beyond one’s normal duties is expected.

Essential Duties:
• Be available to work all Rockford Aviators home games, ability to work non-traditional hours
• Assist with the organization of events including theme nights, picnics, birthday parties, Kid’s Club, etc.
• Assist the staff with pregame and postgame activities
• Represent the Rockford Aviators at community events and home games

Additional Responsibilities:
• Assist the ticket sales staff with phone calls, purchase orders, etc.
• Game day responsibilities include setup and takedown, information center, fan involvement, etc
• Establish relationships to create repeat business
• Assist with tarp pulls and other front office duties as needed
• Community involvement – ex: Street Team, distribution of pocket schedules, etc.

The Southern Illinois Miners Production Internship Program is a hands-on program that gives you real world experience working for a professional baseball team. The skills learned in this program can be taken to many different jobs in sports and production.

Responsibilities:

  • Execution of pre-production schedule including video & audio editing, graphic design.
  • Planning and coordination of assorted events including production, direction, and securing special guests.
  • Organizing and planning game-day events as well as participating in game-day productions.
  • Assist in the day-to-day operations of the production team.
  • Execution of in-season game time production including camera operation, audio controller video board operation, technical director, and replay operator .
     

Experience:

  • Candidates must be creative, enthusiastic, and outgoing individuals that truly enjoy having FUN!
  • Strong Communications/Media background is a plus.
  • Must be able to work all 48 Home games from May to September

  • Some knowledge of audio/video editing & graphic design encouraged including Adobe Suite, Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects, Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.
  • Interns will also learn to work cooperatively in a busy and deadline driven environment, while enjoying the excitement of working within a professional sports organization.

The intention of the Traverse City Beach Bums internship program is to provide an extensive hands-on approach to career development that assists young adults with the selection of appropriate careers. ASSISTANT CLUBBY (filled): Start Date: 04/27/2015
JOB DESCRIPTION:  Desire a college student or recent graduate, with a hunger to be in professional baseball and learn the business. Our internship is designed to provide the employee with a basic training and experience of minor league baseball. The role of this position is to assist the Clubhouse Manager (Clubby) in day to day operations including but not limited:

  • Responsible for working with Clubby receiving and unpacking equipment to start the season. You will be asked to work with the Clubby to submit a mid-season and end-of-season inventory, and must explain any missing or damaged items
  • Maintain contact with Beach Bums Clubby for all equipment needs and repairs (such as radar guns, video cameras, etc)
  • Assist Clubby as directed collecting and doing laundry
  • Clean clubhouse, including bathrooms, showers and kitchen areas, and vacuum
  • Assist with preparation of pre-game and post-game meals
  • Supply toiletries for staff and players' bathrooms and showers
  • Oversee preparation for road trips. Pack uniforms and caps for players who may join the team on the road.
  • Coordinate with staff on distribution of batting practice and game balls
  • Provide food and drinks for the opposing team before and after games.
  • Wash uniforms and maintain a clean clubhouse.

JOB DESCRIPTION: The general intern is a wide reaching internship that provides a challenging look into the business of baseball.  The general intern’s role is multi-dimensional providing support to different departments. 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Learn departmental procedure, answering Beach Bums phones, assisting front office staff, assisting customers and transferring sales calls to appropriate departments
  • Participate in planning and managing special activities, work with the promotions department as needed
  • Contribute to the Beach Bums website, actively participate in the team’s social media efforts
  • Assist in the tracking of current marketing tools (ex: save & organize all newspaper and magazine advertising); organize newspaper articles on players
  • Oversee the P.A. Booth – organize game day music, enter statistics for both the home and visiting team, coordinate P.A. announcements and video message board
  • Work with Director of Media/Broadcasting on press stat packs, coordinate interviews with players and media

JOB DESCRIPTION: This internship will primarily expose students to game day promotions, sales and customer service, but will cover all facets of a professional baseball team’s front office.  Additional opportunities to work and learn on non-game days are required, at the discretion of the Traverse City Beach Bums staff. 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Learn departmental procedure, answering Beach Bums phones, assisting front office staff, assisting customers and transferring sales calls to appropriate departments
  • Contribute to the Beach Bums website, actively participate in the team’s social media efforts
  • Produce game day script and map out between-inning promotions
  • Coordinate and supervise all on-field contests and promotions
  • Organize pre-game events including but not limited to: baseball buddies, first pitch, award ceremonies and special guests
  • Generate game day revenue through program, merchandise, Speed Pitch and Spinning Wheel sales
  • Assist with field preparation and general stadium maintenance and upkeep

TICKET INTERN (only one available) -- Start Date: May 4th, 2015 or sooner

JOB DESCRIPTION: To learn all aspects of the ticket and group sales operation of the Traverse City Beach Bums under the mentorship of the Director of Ticketing. Interns will also gain knowledge in most other departments under the mentorship of those departmental managers. This is a fast paced, challenging internship. The expectations of this position include:

Responsibilities: 

  • Learn all aspects of the ticket program; season & mini plan holders, groups and individuals (seating, payments, billing) ticketing software, as well as the customer database
  • Assist the Director of Ticketing with everyday responsibilities on both game and non-game days
  • Enhance customer service and fan interaction skills through individual ticket orders both via phone and walk-up sales 
  • Build birthday and group sales under the mentorship of the Director of Ticketing
  • Process phone, internet, as well as walk-up ticket orders
  • Communicate with other departments regarding suite bookings in a timely manner, oversee changes and personalization of suite doors
  • Follow-up with game day staff on a nightly basis to ensure a quality experience for all Traverse City Beach Bums guests 
  • Work with the food & beverage as well as promotions staff to ensure birthday parties, groups and party patios are properly understood and executed, serving as a conduit between the food & beverage and promotions
  • **Work with promotions department in the planning and implementation of the Family FunDay Sunday Kids Run the Bases program**  

ALL INTERNS MUST

  • Strive to make the Traverse City Beach Bums a first-class professional sports organization
  • Work diligently to build and strengthen relationships with corporate partners, media, fans and the community
  • Work at all times to provide the ultimate entertainment experience to all patrons of the Traverse City Beach Bums

HOURS:  Interns must be available to participate full-time, including evenings, weekends and holidays.  On non-game days the day generally is 9:30 am to 6 pm Monday through Friday, Saturday 9:30 am to 2 pm (plus possible evenings, weekends and holiday for player/driver/mascot appearances and other special circumstances.) On game days, the day generally begins at 9:30 am and ends after the game (sometimes as late as or later than 11 pm).  The Beach Bums 2014 home game schedule is for 51 home games, with home opener May 22nd and final regular season game Sunday, September 6th, 2015.

Interns in the Ballpark and Stadium Operations will receive a well-rounded experience. You will gain valuable knowledge in the daily operations of two professional sports teams and be required to perform all aspects of the job. This internship requires strong communication skills along with attention to detail are essential. All interns assist full-time staff members in a large number of tasks and help the department work as a team to reach organizational goals.

Responsibilities of the Ballpark and Stadium Operations Internship include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist with checking the cleanliness of the seating bowl, concourse, restrooms, perimeter, picnic areas, suite level, etc.
  • Support Operations Manager with clubhouse operations and stadium rentals 
  • Assist with stadium security and locking up the facility
  • Help with receiving promotional and sponsorship items from the loading dock and organizing the Promotional Storage areas
  • Help with pressure washing and other projects as they arise
  • Assist with supervising third-party contractors around the stadium

Interns in the Community Relations and Promotions Department will receive a well-rounded experience. This internship requires strong communication skills along with attention to detail are essential. Community Relations and Promotions Responsibilities:

  • Fill donation requests and fundraising inquiries.
  • Help manage the fundraising program.
  • Receive and categorize incoming requests from community groups and coordinate the distribution of fundraising tickets.
  • Communicate with all solicitors in a timely and professional manner.
  • Help coordinate all mascot appearances, while also performing as the mascot or assisting the mascot at outside appearances.
  • Assist with daily game day entertainment, theme nights, sponsored events and daily promotions.
  • Assist with grass roots marketing efforts such as pocket schedule distribution and door hanger campaigns in the community.
  • Participate in scheduling/coordinating and attending the team’s mascot appearances and events.
  • Coordinate and oversee the Kids Club.
  • Prior to game, make sure all promotional materials are in place and ready to go for game time.
  • Game duties may include assisting with pre-game ceremonies, on-field promotions and coordinating entertainment acts.
