The Joliet Slammers are committed to providing a quality educational experience through our seasonal internship program. Internships will provide you with the necessary tools to help you advance in the field of sports management and become a sought after member of the sports business world. The Slammers’ environment will provide the perfect laboratory for students in all aspects of sports to receive an integrated learning experience. No other learning experience provides the diversity and magnitude of possibilities. Although there is no job with the Slammers guaranteed following completion of the internship, the educational experience will be invaluable moving forward as you enter the sports business field.

Eligibility

An emphasis will be placed on students seeking internships for an excellent educational experience. Therefore, it is preferred if students have achieved excellent academic achievement and would be receiving college credit for the internship experience.

Evaluations

The Joliet Slammers will provide each intern with evaluations in accordance with their respective school’s requirements. Further evaluations will be given by the Slammers full time employees.

Available Internship Emphasis

All Joliet Slammers internships are general education by design as each intern will have education in most departments listed below. However, each intern will be given an emphasis (listed below) to focus their individual education. Every intern will be required to present to other interns regarding their emphasis to enable a holistic learning experience. Each internship also requires participation in game day activities.

Graphic Design Internship (Spring 2016 and Summer 2016)

Education Supervisor: Manager, Corporate Sales

Areas of Education

• Education in design and management of Slammers marketing materials ( Website, Social Media, Print)
• Usage of marketing materials to drive revenue and repeat customers
• Analysis of industry in designing new marketing material and programs
• Gameday photography and usage of photography in marketing materials

Promotions Internship (Spring 2016, Summer 2016)

Education Supervisor: Assistant General Manager

Areas of Education
• Serve as a member of the on-field promotions team for all Joliet Slammers home games
• Interact with fans in a friendly, professional, and fun manner
• Help coordinate the Slammers’ Kids Club
• Assist with mascots pre-game and in-game and at any community appearances
• Assist in the creation and execution of theme nights
• Create and execute in-game performances, skits, and other between inning games
• Assist pre-game as necessary

Graphic Design Intern - Schaumburg Boomers (Schaumburg, IL)

The Schaumburg Boomers are seeking enthusiastic, self-motivated current college students to be a part of the club’s 2016 season. As a Boomers Intern, you will get first-hand experience in the entire operation of a professional baseball franchise. This is a seasonal position which will last the duration of the season.


Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Assist marketing and design team in creating compelling materials throughout the season
• Develop print ads, web, and video graphic ads for publication
• Collaborate with the Director of Entertainment to ensure consistent styling vision and to reflect our brand aesthetic
• Assist with pocket schedule distribution
• Assist with general ballpark cleanliness, organization and set-up
• Perform as club's mascot at outside appearances
• Other duties as assigned

• Take photos during games

Qualifications:

• Must be currently enrolled undergraduate or graduate student at accredited university
• Must be able to earn college credit for internship
• Graphic design experience required
• Proven proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite required
• Video editing/motion graphic experience preferred
• 3D experience preferred
• Strong organizational skills and keen attention to detail and accuracy
• Highly motivated with strong work ethic and ability to work long, challenging hours, including nights and weekends
• Eagerness to commit time and energy putting out the best materials they can
• Passion for sports and strong desire to work in a team environment that fosters creativity, fun and energy

Compensation is $500 per month and $10 per case of pocket schedules delivered.

Strong consideration will be given to candidates who are able to work from the beginning of the season  until the end of the season  but it is not a requirement.

Accounting Intern - Schaumburg Boomers (Schaumburg, Il)

The Schaumburg Boomers are seeking enthusiastic, self-motivated current college students to be a part of the club’s 2016 season. As a Boomers Accounting Intern, you will receive hands on experience with the Front Office and Food and Beverage accounting procedures. This is a seasonal position which will last the duration of the season.


Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Keep up with Accounting procedures including contracts, filing, and presentation of reports

• Assist with record keeping

• Assist in data entry, including entering payables and receivables

• Ensure accuracy on pricing of invoices compared to our negotiated prices for the season

• Reconcile all cash and pick up drops pertaining to concession stand inventory sheets

• Assist in setting up cash banks for concession stands

• Lead team for monthly food and beverage inventories

• Assist in making change and cash pick up during games

• Schedule cash room staff according to stadium needs

• Assist in the training of cashiers

• Verify Food and Beverage payroll daily according to time clock in and out logs

Qualifications:

• Undergraduate (preferably junior or senior) or graduate student attending accredited university

• Must be able to earn college credit for internship

• Majoring in Accounting or Sports Management

• Knowledge of Quick Books and Excel a plus

• Strong organizational skills and ability to adapt to a fast-paced, multi-task work environment

• Highly motivated with strong work ethic
 

Compensation will be in the form of College credit and $500 per month.

Merchandise Intern (2016 Season) - Traverse City Beach Bums (Traverse City, MI)

MERCHANDISE Internship -- Start Date: May 1st or sooner  END Date: September 5th or later

The Traverse City Beach Bums Professional Baseball Club is looking for a dynamic, high-energy personality for the position of Merchandise Intern for the 2016 season.   

Essential Requirements:

  • Must be available to work all 48 Beach Bums home games plus special events
  • Undergraduate or Graduate student in good academic standing
  • Excellent communication skills; ability to act quickly under pressure
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Superior organizational habits and ability to manage multiple projects
  • Customer service experience a plus
  • Successful applicants should have a genuine interest in the business of venue concessions, be highly motivated and hard working

JOB DESCRIPTION: This internship will primarily expose students to gift shop management, inventory control, product design and ordering, cash handling and budgeting, and sales and customer service but will cover all facets of a professional baseball team’s front office.  

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Work direclty for Director of Merchandise
  • Assist with planning, marketing, and execution of the Beach Bums merchandise and promotional items for the Traverse City Beach Bums Beach Bums and outside events
  • Assist with planning, ordering, and execution the promotions for all 48 Beach Bums home games
  • Create and sell marketing campaigns to help promote local businesses
  • Contribute to the Beach Bums website, web store, actively participate in the team’s social media efforts
  • Assist with field preparation and general stadium maintenance and upkeep 
  • Organize and attend outside promotional events and assist with grassroots marketing efforts as needed
  • Other duties as assigned by the General Manager

HOURS:  

  • Non-game days 9:30 am to 6:00 pm Monday through Friday, Saturday 9:30 am to 2 pm
  • Game days 9:30 am until the game is over (generaly 11 pm or later) 

Intern Salary: $500/month stipend

2016 Summer Internships - Windy City ThunderBolts (Crestwood, IL)

The Windy City ThunderBolts Professional Baseball Team have internship openings for the 2016 season.

Interns will be expected to report to work in early May, 2016 and work through the conclusion of the home season. (Summer interns are paid a monthly stipend and have the potential to earn commission on sales)

Evening and weekend work will be required. All interns must have local housing available for the duration of the internship.

The following summer internship is available:

Community Relations
· Serve as liaison between team and corporate partner to ensure package components are properly serviced
· Oversee “Field of Dreams” program, including selling, scheduling, and servicing teams
· Developing, selling, and executing game promotions
· Assist in execution of in-game promotions
· Making group and advertising sales calls on behalf of the team
· Other office and ballpark support duties as necessary
· Questions – Do you have prior sales experience? Do you have desktop publishing experience?
