Spring/Summer Graphic Design Internship - Joliet Slammers (Joliet, IL)

 Introduction

The Joliet Slammers are committed to providing a quality educational experience through our seasonal internship program. Internships will provide you with the necessary tools to help you advance in the field of sports management and become a sought after member of the sports business world. The Slammers’ environment will provide the perfect laboratory for students in all aspects of sports to receive an integrated learning experience. No other learning experience provides the diversity and magnitude of possibilities. Although there is no job with the Slammers guaranteed following completion of the internship, the educational experience will be invaluable moving forward as you enter the sports business field.

Skills that will be enhanced by the Slammers program include:

Eligibility

An emphasis will be placed on students seeking internships for an excellent educational experience. Therefore, it is preferred if students have achieved excellent academic achievement and would be receiving college credit for the internship experience.

Evaluations

The Joliet Slammers will provide each intern with evaluations in accordance with their respective school’s requirements. Further evaluations will be given by the Slammers full time employees.

Available Internship Emphasis

All Joliet Slammers internships are general education by design as each intern will have education in most departments listed below. However, each intern will be given an emphasis (listed below) to focus their individual education. Every intern will be required to present to other interns regarding their emphasis to enable a holistic learning experience. Each internship also requires participation in game day activities.

Graphic Design Internship (Spring 2014 and Summer 2014)

Education Supervisor: Director of Marketing and Special Events

Areas of Education

• Education in design and management of Slammers marketing materials ( Website, Social Media, Print)
• Usage of marketing materials to drive revenue and repeat customers
• Analysis of industry in designing new marketing material and programs
• Gameday photography and usage of photography in marketing materials

Summer Internship: Stadium Operations - Lake Erie Crushers (Avon, OH)

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
• Recruiting, scheduling and managing game day employees.
• Training employees on the Crusher Policies and Procedures Manual.
• Establishing and maintaining the day-to-day operation of our guest service plan.
• Programming and supervising specific areas of the ballpark, such as our Kids Zone.
• All facets of fan relations – i.e. comments, requests and suggestions.
• Creating and maintaining a clean, safe and fun ballpark for all fans.
• Assisting in inventory controls and purchasing to ensure that the facility is adequately stocked for all events.
• Pursuing and coordinating all aspects of ballpark rentals such as concerts, high school and college games, etc.
• Assisting with the management of ballpark security and implementing ideas and requests of ballpark security staff.
• All facets of employee supervision, including janitorial services and in-game custodians/matrons.
• Serving as the liaison between the Crushers and various subcontractors.
• Assisting in all facets of preventative maintenance for the ballpark.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
• Candidates must be reliable, detailed oriented, able to problem solve, able to efficiently multi-task, have solid communication skill and writing ability, a strong work ethic, stellar customer service skills and a team work mentality.
• Efficiency in Microsoft Office and Outlook is required
• Candidates in their junior or senior year of college will be given preference
• This is a full-time, seasonal position. Interns must be able to work weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and all game days until the conclusion of the game.
• The internship starts May 1 and concludes at the end of the season in early September.

Compensation:

Summer Internship: Concessions - Lake Erie Crushers (Avon, OH)

The Lake Erie Crushers, located in Avon, OH, are looking for a Concessions Intern for the 2014 summer baseball season (May 2014-September '14).The Crushers are seeking college students, who are passionate about working in the sports industry to fill an internship position in concessions for the 2014 summer term. Interns will work directly with the Director of Concessions, learning all aspects of food services at a professional sports venue. Interns will also get an inside look at the business of baseball, gaining experience in all areas of a professional sport team’s front office operations, including ticketing, sales, marketing, media relations, promotions, and merchandise.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

• Assist with recruiting, scheduling and managing of game day employees.

• Assist with the food preparation and set up for concession stands.

• Help coordinate and service group outings and picnic.

• Assist with inventory control

Qualifications:

The Lake Erie Crushers, located in Avon, OH, are looking for interns for the 2014 summer baseball season (May 2014-September '14). Team Store/Retail Merchandising Summer Internship - Normal CornBelters (Normal, IL)

The Normal CornBelters are seeking an individual who is highly motivated to contribute to the team store and merchandising efforts of a professional sports organization.

This is an unpaid internship, and the individual selected must require an internship for college credit. Housing and transportation will not be provided by the organization.

Job duties (but not limited to):

• Assist in prepping and set-up team store and/or kiosk for game day sales which consists of merchandising, product display, inventory levels and store cleanliness.
• Assist customers with purchases with emphasis on customer service, friendly and professional attitude and product knowledge
• Work all home stand games and events
• Actively engaging with fans in selling ancillary products throughout the stadium

Stadium Operations Internship - Normal CornBelters (Normal, IL)

Reports to: Stadium Operations Manager

Effective Dates: May 6, 2014 - September 6, 2014 (Summer Semester)

The Normal CornBelters are looking for highly motivated individuals to contribute to the game day operations of The Corn Crib, as well as being exposed to the overall operations of a professional sports organization.

This is an unpaid position, and the individuals selected must require an internship for college credit.  As a member of the CornBelters Stadium Operations Staff, this individual will primarily focus on the areas of fan information, promotions, merchandise store, and other game day operation areas.  This position is rotating, giving all candidates the ability to experience every aspect of the Normal CornBelters on game days.  Additional learning opportunities are provided for those who request during the season.  However, this individual will not be limited in performing other duties as assigned.  Interns are expected to work most of the 52 game schedule.

Responsibilities Include (but are are not limited to):

  • Providing unwavering customer service
  • Set-up and breakdown of The Corn Crib before and after games
  • Assisting in game day operations
  • Working with front office staff and other gameday staff on maintaining ballpark and/or other duties associated with logistics of all home games

Mascot Intern - Summer 2014 - River City Rascals (O'Fallon, MO)

The River City Rascals Professional Baseball team, a member of the Frontier League, are currently in search of a Mascot intern for the 2014 season. This position will give candidates an opportunity to gain valuable experience in professional sports through our challenging and rewarding internship program.
 

 

 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Work on a part-time basis as Ruffy, the official mascot of the River City Rascals.
  • Performing mascot appearances in the community throughout the summer as well as your normal in-game duties.
  • Perform and/or provide support to community and team appearances. This may include but is not limited to sponsors, charities, media and private functions.
  • Represent the River City Rascals in an appropriate manner at all times, whether at the ballpark or out in the community.
  • Work directly with the Promotions coordinators on appearances and events.
  • Work with Promotions staff to develop, create and execute new skits, dance routines, and other forms of mascot-related entertainment.
  • Further the mission statement and reputation of the River City Rascals in the community.


Desired Qualifications:

  • Must be available for necessary community appearances which includes nights and weekends.
  • Must be well organized, dependable, and socially outgoing.
  • Must have strong communication skills.
  • Must be local to St.Charles County and able to carry out appearances with little supervision.
  • Must be available to work flexible hours during the season (preferably April-September).
  • Fan friendly and outgoing individual.
  • Works well with children and other staff members at many events.
  • Must be able to work in a costume for extended periods of time.
  • Must have reliable transportation, and valid driver’s license.
  • Must be able to lift approximately 50 lbs.
  • Previous mascot experience preferred.

Concession Management Intern - Summer 2014 - River City Rascals (O'Fallon, MO)

The River City Rascals Professional Baseball Team, a member of the Frontier League, is currently in search of a concessions management intern for the summer of 2014. The Concession management intern will work directly with the Director of Food Beverage.

Responsibilities include but not limited to:
• Creating and maintaining a clean, safe and fun ballpark for all fans
• Assisting in inventory controls and purchasing to ensure that the facility is adequately stocked for all events.
• Assisting in all facets of preventative maintenance for the concession areas
• Additional duties assigned by Director of Food and Beverage
• Assisting in stocking inventory in warehouse upon arrival
• Maintain an organized warehouse by the FIFO system
• Complete inventory counts at end of each month
• Coordinate with Food Service Director/Catering Kitchen/Front office to ensure catering orders are correct.

• Must be able to problem solve quickly, work efficiently in an intense environment
• Some heavy lifting required

Responsibilities:

  • Execution of pre-production schedule including video & audio editing, graphic design.
  • Planning and coordination of assorted events including production, direction, and securing special guests.
  • Organizing and planning game-day events as well as participating in game-day productions.
  • Assist in the day-to-day operations of the production team.
  • Execution of in-season game time production including camera operation, audio controller video board operation, technical director, and replay operator .

Hospitality/Food Service Internship Description - Southern Illinois Miners (Marion, IL)

The Hospitality/Food Service Intern is responsible to assist in all aspects of the Food Service that occurs at Rent One Park. The schedule includes all Southern Illinois Miners home games, any concerts, and possibly catering or extra events throughout the summer. The primary focus includes a commitment to quality, ensuring the highest level of customer service, supervising employees, ensuring premium sanitation in a safe and secure work environment, maximizing efficiency through time management and creating a fun atmosphere for our employees and our fans.

The following list includes (but is not limited to) the job related duties for the Hospitality/Food Service Intern:

Picnics:
Follow all procedures for each picnic that is booked (will be explained after hired)
Staff, schedule, and oversee the picnic staff (10-20 employees) as well as track labor costs
Make sure all equipment is functional and secure enough supplies for each event (linens, tables, chairs, etc.)
Facilitate the set-up and breakdown for each picnic and/or extra event held at Rent One Park.
Work closely with kitchen staff on prep & production for each event
Assist in tracking food cost/inventory for all picnics
Create and distribute survey for picnic attendees

Concession Stands:
Create, copy, and distribute all stand paperwork for clipboards (stand sheet, stock sheets, specials)
Assist in scheduling staff and/or non-profit organizations to work concession stands
Assist in closing concession stands out every night (checklist, inventory, payout, money, POS)
Assist with vending operation & portable units
Assist with all stand reports: sales, food cost, labor costs (nightly, monthly, YTD)
Assist in supervising and overseeing staff and/or non-profit organizations nightly
Assist in equipment maintenance and cleanliness of concession stands/storage areas
Assist w/ inventory, stocking, and POS reports


MISC.:

Internships - Windy City ThunderBolts (Crestwood, IL)

The Windy City ThunderBolts Professional Baseball Team have internship openings for the 2014 season.

Interns will be expected to report to work in early May, 2014 and work through the conclusion of the home season. (Summer interns are paid a monthly stipend and have the potential to earn commission on sales)

Evening and weekend work will be required. All interns must have local housing available for the duration of the internship.

The following summer internships are available:

Merchandising
