Spring/Summer Graphic Design/Photography Internship - Joliet Slammers (Joliet, IL)

 Introduction

The Joliet Slammers are committed to providing a quality educational experience through our seasonal internship program. Internships will provide you with the necessary tools to help you advance in the field of sports management and become a sought after member of the sports business world. The Slammers’ environment will provide the perfect laboratory for students in all aspects of sports to receive an integrated learning experience. No other learning experience provides the diversity and magnitude of possibilities. Although there is no job with the Slammers guaranteed following completion of the internship, the educational experience will be invaluable moving forward as you enter the sports business field.

Skills that will be enhanced by the Slammers program include:

3. Data Analysis
4. Game day promotions
5. Food and Beverage Operations

Eligibility

An emphasis will be placed on students seeking internships for an excellent educational experience. Therefore, it is preferred if students have achieved excellent academic achievement and would be receiving college credit for the internship experience.

Evaluations

The Joliet Slammers will provide each intern with evaluations in accordance with their respective school’s requirements. Further evaluations will be given by the Slammers full time employees.

Available Internship Emphasis

All Joliet Slammers internships are general education by design as each intern will have education in most departments listed below. However, each intern will be given an emphasis (listed below) to focus their individual education. Every intern will be required to present to other interns regarding their emphasis to enable a holistic learning experience. Each internship also requires participation in game day activities.

Graphic Design Internship (Spring 2016 and Summer 2016)

Education Supervisor: Manager, Corporate Sales

Areas of Education

• Education in design and management of Slammers marketing materials ( Website, Social Media, Print)
• Usage of marketing materials to drive revenue and repeat customers
• Analysis of industry in designing new marketing material and programs
• Gameday photography and usage of photography in marketing materials

Summer Internship: Video production & photogrphy - Lake Erie Crushers (Avon, Oh)

We are looking for an intern interested in videography, video editing & photography for the 2016 season.   The position is unpaid, however academic credit is available if applicable.

Duties

  1. Shoot and edit news-style video packages of player interviews, community relations events and appearances, and other team-related events.
  2. Compile and edit footage into video highlight segments.
  3. Shoot game footage during live games and promotional events during stoppages.
  4. Archive, log, and maintain game footage for future use.
  5. Work with Team Photographer to edit photo’s for sale, web & social media distribution
  6. Generate and execute new concepts for in-game entertainment features and promotions.
  7. Other duties as assigned in a complete and timely fashion.

Requirements

  1. General knowledge of video production equipment including camera, digital recording media, editing systems, etc.
  2. Strong organizational and communication skills.
  3. Ability to multitask and complete tasks within deadlines.
  4. Must be available for a majority of the games.

Summer Internship: Web & Graphic Design - Lake Erie Crushers (Avon, OH)

The Lake Erie Crushers, an independent league professional baseball team located in Avon, OH, are seeking a Web & Graphic Design intern to design its’ flyers and promotional materials for the 2016 summer baseball season, as well as work on the team's website.  This is a great opportunity to build your portfolio, on your own schedule, with real-world applications.

Responsibilities:

  • Create Posters/Flyers for:
    • Promotional and Theme Nights
    • Nightly Group Welcome Signs
    • Crushers’ Events (i.e. Crushers’ Hitting Academy, Summer Baseball Camps, ect.)
    • Crushers’ Kid’s Club Posters/Flyers
  • Update the team website on a daily basis
  • Create mailers for Crushers’ events and group outings
  • Create staff name badges and VIP passes
  • Opportunity to expand into other areas (Merchandise, signage, ect)

Qualifications:

  • Currently attending, or recently graduated from, an accredited university (Graphic Design or comparable major preferred)
  • Creative, outside the box thinker, willing and excited to bring new ideas to the table
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Publisher, InDesign, or Photoshop (if working remotely, you will have to provide your own software)
  • Ability to work under a deadline
  • Good communicator
  • Self-Starter, who can work with little supervision

This is an unpaid internship, and no housing is provided. College credit can be awarded for completion of this internship, and 5% commission is awarded for group and season ticket sales, or sponsorships sold.

Summer Internship: Stadium Operations - Lake Erie Crushers (Avon, OH)

The Lake Erie Crushers, located in Avon, OH, are looking for interns for the 2016 summer baseball season (May 2016-September 2016). The Crushers are seeking college students, who are passionate about working in the sports industry to fill an internship position in stadium operations for the 2016 summer term. Interns will get an inside look at the business of baseball, gaining experience in all areas of a professional sport team’s front office operations, including ticketing, sales, marketing, media relations, promotions and merchandise. This internship will work directly with the VP of Stadium Operations.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Recruiting, scheduling and managing game day employees.
  • Training employees on the Crusher Policies and Procedures Manual.
  • Establishing and maintaining the day-to-day operation of our guest service plan.
  • Programming and supervising specific areas of the ballpark, such as our Kids Zone.
  • All facets of fan relations – i.e. comments, requests and suggestions.
  • Creating and maintaining a clean, safe and fun ballpark for all fans.
  • Assisting in inventory controls and purchasing to ensure that the facility is adequately stocked for all events.
  • Pursuing and coordinating all aspects of ballpark rentals such as concerts, high school and college games, etc.
  • Assisting with the management of ballpark security and implementing ideas and requests of ballpark security staff.
  • All facets of employee supervision, including janitorial services and in-game custodians/matrons.
  • Serving as the liaison between the Crushers and various subcontractors.
  • Assisting in all facets of preventative maintenance for the ballpark.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Candidates must be reliable, detailed oriented, able to problem solve, able to efficiently multi-task, have solid communication skill and writing ability, a strong work ethic, stellar customer service skills and a team work mentality.
  • Efficiency in Microsoft Office and Outlook is required
  • Candidates in their junior or senior year of college will be given preference
  • This is a full-time, seasonal position. Interns must be able to work weekdays from 10am to 4pm and all game days until the conclusion of the game.
  • The internship starts mid May and concludes at the end of the season in early September.

Internship Opportunities (2016 Summer) - River City Rascals (O'Fallon, MO)

Description

River City Rascals – 2016 Summer Internships
May 2016 - September 2016

The River City Rascals are entering their 18th season as members of the professional, independent Frontier League at beautiful CarShield Field in O’Fallon, MO. O’Fallon is located 30 miles west of St. Louis, MO.

The Rascals are seeking highly motivated college students or recent graduates that are passionate about beginning a career in professional sports.  This position will gain experience rotating through several departments throughout the summer of 2016. These roles include but will not be limited to ticket sales, sponsorship activation, stadium operations, grounds crew responsibilities, in-game promotions, grass roots marketing efforts, media relations, and merchandise.

QUALIFICATIONS
All candidates must be able to lift 50 lbs, be reliable and willing “to do whatever it takes” to get the job done while maintaining a positive attitude. Candidates must be able to multi-task, have sound communication skills, and provide unwavering customer service to our fans.

This is an unpaid position, with availability to maintain a part-time job outside of your internship.  The ability to obtain college course credit is available. Summer interns will be expected to work ALL Rascals home games as well as maintain a consistent office hours schedule.          

STADIUM OPERATIONS/CONCESSIONS
Persons rotating through a Stadium Operations Internship will work closely with the team’s Director of Stadium Operations and the grounds crew to ensure that Carshield Field is a safe and clean environment for our fans and players. Interns will assist with the daily upkeep of the stadium, manage extra events (non-Rascals games), provide inventory of janitorial and grounds supplies and assist with setup and take down for batting practice. Persons rotating through Concessions & Catering will report directly to the Director of Food and Beverage assisting with food and beverage deliveries, managing the warehouse, stocking concession stands, and setting up catering/party areas.  This is not an office job.

TICKET SALES
Persons rotating through a Ticket Sales Internship will engage in all sales and services including individual, group, season, and partial season tickets. Training on TicketReturn, the Rascals ticketing software, will be provided along with cold calling and sales training experience.

PROMOTIONS
Persons rotating through a Promotions Internship will engage in all on-field and off-field promotions both game and non-game days as well as attend community/mascot appearances.  Promotions Interns will also have the opportunity to write press releases, build game day scripts and plan future promotional nights.

RETAIL/MERCHANDISING
Persons rotating through a Retail/Merchandising position will assist the Business Manager and Assistant General Manager with the overall planning, ordering, and execution of the River City Rascals Team Store.  They will be responsible for monitory inventory levels, store layout, operating a cash register and run end of the night game reports.

Food & Beverage Internship (2016 Season) - Traverse City Beach Bums (Traverse City, MI)

Food and Beverage Internship
Start Date: May 10, 2016 (Earlier if able) $600/month stipend
Duties: Include but are not limited to:

  • Taking orders from various food suppliers
  • Stock the various areas of the Concession Department (Concession Stands, Beer Rooms, Ice Cream Rooms, Grills and Suites)
  • Take inventory of food/beverage items prior to each game (final inventory after game)
  • Oversee and train a staff of 45-65 concession employees
  • After a home-stand clean up the areas and get prepared for the next set of games
  • Involved with the hiring and scheduling of employees
  • Learn the POS system that is used 
  • Help out in any other areas where needed

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

  • Undergraduate or Graduate student in good academic standing
  • Excellent cxommunication skills; ability to act quickly under pressure
  • Must be enthusiastic and able to keep up in a fast paced environment
  • Must be customer service oriented

Develop and enhance relationships with current fans and sponsors. Assist in other departments with particular projects as requested or required.

Hours: Interns must be available to particpate full-time, including evenings, weekends and holidays.  On non-game days the day generally is 9:30 am to 6 pm Monday through Friday, Saturday 9:30 am to 2 pm, (plus possible evenings, weekends and holidays for player/driver/mascot appearances and other special circumstances.) On game days, the day generally begins at 9:30 am and ends after the game (sometimes as late as or later than 11 pm.)  The Beach Bums 2016 home game schedule is for 48 home games.  


Qualifications: Must be outgoing, tactful, courteous, and professional in an atmosphere of many demands and frequent interruptions. Must be a team player with excellent interpersonal, phone, and organizational skills. Must utilize high-impact customer service skills to ensure customer loyalty. Ability to perceive problems, suggestions, and trouble-shoot solutions proactively. Manage game day staff, including scheduling, monitoring, and problem solving.

Ticketing system knowledge, and understanding of baseball and the industry as well as computer skills is a plus.

Compensation: The Ticket Intern position is a full-time, seasonal position with the Traverse City Beach Bums organization.  Commission is available on group and full party patio sales.  This position is from May 1st (or sooner) through September 1st, 2016.  The candidate will earn a stipend of $500 per month (paid bi-monthly) for each month he/she is employed by the Beach Bums, with the opportunity to earn college credit.
