The Evansville Otters have full-time internships available for the 2010 season. The internship positions are summer positions that start in late April or early May and run through the conclusion of the season in September. EXPECTATIONS: The Evansville Otters expect interns to consider themselves a part of our full time staff. All employees are expected to work ALL home games including night, weekend and holiday games. Candidates are required to be enthusiastic with a great desire to put on a night of entertainment and memories for all the fans at historic Bosse Field. Within minor league baseball, the front office staff performs duties at all levels of management and maintenance. From time to time, staff members will be required to help sell tickets, help in our concessions operations, interact with players and coaches, help clean the stadium, pull tarp over the field and other tasks, in addition to their primary duties. Everyone working in professional league baseball wears many different “hats,” so a willingness to go above and beyond one’s normal duties is expected. The Otters offer the opportunity to learn the business of baseball from the ground up. Many past interns who have planned to continue a career path in professional sports have been given that opportunity to continue either with the Evansville Otters or with other professional sports teams.

The summer internship program with the Florence Freedom Professional Baseball team is designed to give exposure and experience on how an independent professional baseball organization operates during the season.

 

Requirements
• Undergraduate (preferably junior/senior standing) or graduate students attending an accredited university with a major emphasis in Sports Administration, Business Administration or related field.
• Must be able to earn college credit for internship. Unpaid positions.
• Must possess exceptional organization skills; be able to function in a fast-paced, multi-task workplace. Excellent oral & written communication skills are required.
• All summer interns will have the opportunity to gain experience in every aspect of minor league baseball operations, but will spend the majority of their time focused on one of the following positions:


Youth Events
• Responsible for the sales and marketing of youth team packages, birthday parties and Newport Aquarium Kids Club.
• Act as a liaison between these group members and the front office staff.
• Prepare ballpark for events; tasks include: cleaning & arranging hospitality areas for groups, special event setup, batting practice setup/cleanup, in-game entertainment and other duties as assigned.

 

eMarketing
• Assist in updating and maintaining Florence Freedom’s website.
• Support in issuing press releases, correspondence with media and e-Flock newsletter.
• Must maintain an intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office.
• Previous experience with Constant Contact is recommended.
• Prepare ballpark for events; tasks include: cleaning & arranging hospitality areas for groups, special event setup, batting practice setup/cleanup, in-game entertainment and other duties as assigned.

 

Group Sales
• Create, manipulate and print ticket orders
• Actively solicit groups for outings at the ballpark
• Organization of group sales items (tickets, wristband, etc) for group leader pickup
• Manage group sales database and other data collection systems
• Facilitate group outings; work with fans to provide an enjoyable experience
• Prepare ballpark for events; tasks include: cleaning & arranging hospitality areas for groups, special event setup, batting practice setup/cleanup, in-game entertainment and other duties as assigned.

 

Box Office
• Assist in running ticketing reports
• Sell individual tickets via phone or during walk-up times
• Contribute with the management of the Box Office staff
• Address and resolve customer issues
• Prepare ballpark for events; tasks include: cleaning & arranging hospitality areas for groups, special event setup, batting practice setup/cleanup, in-game entertainment and other duties as assigned.

 

Stadium Operations
• Assist in the overall maintenance and cleanliness of the ballpark
• Aid in the management of the janitorial staff
• Ability to perform strenuous activities and to lift, carry and transport boxes up to 50lbs.
• Prepare ballpark for events; tasks include: cleaning & arranging hospitality areas for groups, special event setup, batting practice setup/cleanup, in-game entertainment and other duties as assigned.


Food & Beverage
• Daily restocking and cleaning of concession stands
• Assist in receiving/processing deliveries and managing inventory
• Assist in catering efforts for the hospitality areas
• Manning a station in the concession stand as needed
• Prepare ballpark for events; tasks include: cleaning & arranging hospitality areas for groups, special event setup, batting practice setup/cleanup, in-game entertainment and other duties as assigned.

 

Concession Supervisor
• Daily restocking and cleaning of concession stands
• Manning a station in the concession stand as needed
• Assist in the scheduling and management of seasonal concessions employees.
• Prepare ballpark for events; tasks include: cleaning & arranging hospitality areas for groups, special event setup, batting practice setup/cleanup, in-game entertainment and other duties as assigned.

 

Merchandise
• Learn and become proficient on all aspects of our POS system
• Assist in maintaining a clean and organized retail shop & storage area
• Assist in pricing and displaying new merchandise that will arrive throughout the season
• Assist in creating promotional ideas to generate retail sales
• Assist in maintaining adequate retail inventory at all times
• Prepare ballpark for events; tasks include: cleaning & arranging hospitality areas for groups, special event setup, batting practice setup/cleanup, in-game entertainment and other duties as assigned.

 

Accounting
• Assist in data entry for ticket contracts on a daily basis.
• Utilize Quickbook functions to reconcile accounts.
• Bookkeeping activities including general ledger entries.
• Cash management before, during and after events.
• Prepare ballpark for events; tasks include: cleaning & arranging hospitality areas for groups, special event setup, batting practice setup/cleanup, in-game entertainment and other duties as assigned.

 

Press Box
• Duties to include management of pre-game, in-game & post-game music.
• Scorekeeping duties include keeping track of hits, runs, balls, strikes, outs, etc. and monitoring the progress of the game.
• Prepare ballpark for events; tasks include: cleaning & arranging hospitality areas for groups, special event setup, batting practice setup/cleanup, in-game entertainment and other duties as assigned.

 

Control Room/Cameramen
• Responsibilities include capturing fan shots, setting up promotional footage, interacting with the fan base and coordinating with production booth staff to enhance the overall fan experience.
• Prepare ballpark for events; tasks include: cleaning & arranging hospitality areas for groups, special event setup, batting practice setup/cleanup, in-game entertainment and other duties as assigned.

 

Baseball Operations
• Primary responsibilities will be in assisting the Florence Freedom field manager.
• Responsible for execution of baseball operations events such as Bat Boy program and Baseball camps.
• Prepare ballpark for events; tasks include: cleaning & arranging hospitality areas for groups, special event setup, batting practice setup/cleanup, in-game entertainment and other duties as assigned.

 

Broadcast
• The job includes play-by-play for the middle three innings of all home games, plus responsibilities in media relations (media guides, games notes, etc) and sales.
• Assist with all media interviews and requests.

Mascot/Street Team
• Assist with various live interactive activities, promotions, entertainment, and fan contests during Freedom games and events.

The Gateway Grizzlies Professional Baseball Team, a member of the Frontier League, is currently in search of interns for the 2010 season. The positions available will give candidates an opportunity to gain valuable experience in professional sports through our challenging and rewarding internship program.

Each position will begin approximately May 10, 2010 and lasts until the end of the season. The Grizzlies would prefer if qualified individuals would be willing to come in for training a few weeks prior to the start date.  Below is a list of the available positions:

Merchandise Intern

The merchandise intern will work directly with the Director of Merchandise to provide the highest level of customer service.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Work extensively on the POS system to ensure proper customer service in the team store during Grizzlie games
  • Balance register each game night
  • Assist with daily duties in the team store such as stocking, processing orders, and maintaining the team store website
  • Answer phones, take single game, and group ticket orders, while passing corporate sales calls to the sales department

Compensation:
• $200 per month plus commission on season tickets and packages sold.
• College credit
• Housing is not provided.

Stadium operations interns will work directly with the Director of Stadium Operations to provide the highest level of customer service.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Managing and coordinating employees within an assigned concession area
  • Creating and maintaining a clean, safe and fun ballpark for all fans
  • Assisting in inventory controls and purchasing to ensure that the facility is adequately stocked for all events
  • Pursuing and coordinating all aspects of ballpark rentals- concerts, college games, city championships, etc.
  • All facets of employee supervision, including janitorial services, in-game custodians and security
  • Assisting in all facets of preventative maintenance for the ballpark
  • Primary liaison between group sales department and catering department
  • Insuring that facility is prepared to accommodate group outings each night

Compensation:
• $200 per month plus commission on season tickets and packages sold.

  • Rotation of working ticket windows, and will call window on game nights
  • Distribution of marketing materials to area vendors
  • Working extensively on ticketing system to ensure proper customer service
  • Distribute tickets through will call on a daily basis
  • Balance register each night

  • Distribution of marketing materials
  • Assist with organizing and marketing Kids Club and other programs to the community

Ticketing Internship
Start Date: Mid-April or Early-May
Duties: Exposure to all areas of ticketing included but not limited to; effectively prospecting, presenting and following through with customers. Develop and enhance relationships with current fans and sponsors. Assist in other departments with particular projects as requested or required.
Qualifications: Must be outgoing, tactful, courteous, and professional in an atmosphere of many demands and frequent interruptions. Must be a team player with excellent interpersonal, phone, and organizational skills. Must utilize high-impact customer service skills to ensure customer loyalty. Ability to perceive problems, suggestions, and trouble-shoot solutions proactively. Manage game day staff, including scheduling, monitoring, and problem solving. Ticketing system knowledge, and understanding of baseball and the industry as well as computer skills is a plus.

Food and Beverage Internship
Start Date: Mid-April or Early-May
Duties: Include but are not limited to:
• Taking orders from various food suppliers that we use
• Stock the various areas of the Concession Department (Concession Stands, Beer Rooms, Ice Cream Rooms, Grills and Suites)
• During game time oversee all areas of the concessions and employees (40+ employees)
• After a home-stand clean up the areas and get prepared for the next set of games
• Involved with the hiring and scheduling of employees
• Learn the POS system that is used
• Help out in any other areas where needed

Qualifications: Successful applicants should have a genuine interest in the business of venue concessions, be highly motivated and hard working.

Operations/Promotions/Community Relations Internship
Start Date: Mid-April or Early-May
Duties: Assist in the coordination of operations/promotions/community relations at Wuerfel Park. Aid in planning, developing, implementing, and overseeing promotions including game day set up, in-between inning contests, arranging special events, scheduling appearances, national anthem, first pitches, etc.
Candidates will be responsible for assisting in the management of player and mascot appearances as well as the Reading Program. Candidates will also be responsible for assisting in the general upkeep of a 4,500+ capacity stadium and its surrounding grounds.
Qualifications: Must be familiar with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Publisher. Knowledge of Adobe In-Design, Illustrator, and/or Photoshop is a plus. Project a positive attitude and image to fans, clients/sponsors, as well as season ticket holders at all times. Well organized and creative, excellent execution and attention to detail is a must. Candidates must be comfortable performing multi-faceted projects in combination with other routine activities. Individuals must be outgoing and show a willingness to follow accepted business procedures and practices. Must be a team-player.

Merchandising / Retail Internship
Start Date: Mid-April or Early-May
Duties: The Beach Bums merchandising intern will assist in areas such as but not limited to:
• Opening and closing store
• Assisting customers
• Cash register operations and daily settlement
• Visual merchandising
• Receiving shipments
• Tracking sales results vs. plan
• Replenishment of best sellers
• Assist with inventory control
• Creation and development of new items

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
• Strong written and verbal communication skills required.
• Strong organizational skills required.
• Must be an outgoing, self motivated, people person
• Experience in retail a plus but willing to train the right candidate

The Wild Things are accepting resumes for multiple positions during the 2010 season.

Mission Statement:
The mission of the Washington Wild Things’ internship program is to educate its participants in all aspects of operating a professional sports organization, by observation and getting real hands-on experience. Interns learn how to work in a professional environment that requires a high energy level, the ability to perform under pressure and the utilization of essential time management skills. The Washington Wild Things strive to successfully prepare interns to compete for positions in the professional sports industry.

Wild Things Interns:
We are currently looking for full-time and part-time interns in a variety of departments. Full-time interns will be expected to work a minimum of 40 hours per week, and part-time interns will be expected to work at home games.

The Wild Things are looking for an outgoing, go getter personality to handle multiple responsibilities. The successful candidate will learn all aspects of running a professional franchise, such as: sales, marketing, operations, ticketing, customer service and more. All interns’ responsibilities will vary depending on department. All Wild Things interns will gain valuable experience in our group sales department and will be required to make outgoing sales calls. We are looking for hard-working candidates that aren’t afraid to work long hours and get their hands dirty.
