Merchandise Internship (Summer 2015)

Education Supervisor: Assistant General Manager

Areas of Education

Learn to market team merchandise and drive revenue through the sale of merchandise both in stadium and through alternate sales channels. Aid in design of team and online store. Internship will include education in managing inventory, store organization, ordering of new merchandise, training of game day staff, and managing team shop on game day.

Summer Internship: Broadcasting - Lake Erie Crushers (Avon, OH)

The Lake Erie Crushers are looking for interns for the 2015 summer baseball season (May 2015-September 2015. As a Lake Erie Crushers’ intern you will be given the opportunity to experience and partake in the broadcasting aspect of how a professional baseball team operates. 

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Communicate interesting story lines and commentary while accurately describing the game to listeners on air with Broadcaster, Andy "Bull" Barch.
  • Compile and distribute game notes, stats and starting line-up.
  • Communicating through all Social Media outlets
  • Prepare game recaps each night to distribute to the media at the conclusion of the game.
  • Serve as the main liaison with the radio station.
  • Produce, coordinate and log all sponsor ads and reads during the broadcast.
  • Assist the Play-By-Play Broadcaster in writing press releases and stories for the webpage and program as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Experience in sports play-by-play and color broadcasting
  • Knowledge of all applicable baseball Rules and Regulations
  • Skill in operation of control board, remote broadcasting and other related production equipment is liked but not necessary
  • Strong writing skills
  • Knowledge of Social Media

The Lake Erie Crushers are looking for interns for the 2015 summer baseball season (May 2015-September 2015. As a Lake Erie Crushers’ intern you will be given the opportunity to experience and partake in the ticketing aspect of how a professional baseball team operates.

The Lake Erie Crushers, located in Avon, OH, are looking for a Concessions Intern for the 2015 summer baseball season (May 2015-September 2015).The Crushers are seeking college students, who are passionate about working in the sports industry to fill an internship position in concessions for the 2015 summer term. Interns will work directly with the Director of Concessions, learning all aspects of food services at a professional sports venue. Summer Internship: Merchandise - Lake Erie Crushers (Avon, OH)

The Lake Erie Crushers, an independent league baseball team located in Avon, OH, are seeking a Merchandise Intern to help oversee the team’s souvenir store, the “Fan-Attic," for the 2015 summer baseball season (May 2015-September 2015). This is a full-time position and requires availability during all Crushers’ home games, as well as normal office hours (M-F 10am-4pm). This position will give you the opportunity to manage a retail operation, and learn how a professional baseball team operates. 

Responsibilities

  • Store merchandising, product display, inventory levels, and store cleanliness
  • Maintain online storefront including adding new merchandise to the website, updating inventory levels, and fulfilling orders
  • Bring a positive, helpful attitude to every point of contact with customers
  • Opportunity to manage store employees, including training, scheduling, and leading the performance of all associates
  • Bring new, creative ideas to the table in regards to merchandise and promotions for the Fan Attic
  • Preparing all reconciliations and deposits for the store as well as reporting shortages/overages
  • Ability and desire to go into the community, make sales calls, and plan and execute promotional nights throughout the season
  • Opportunity to learn Ticket Return ticketing system, and work in the Box Office

The Lake Erie Crushers are looking for accounting interns for the 2015 summer baseball season (May 2015-September 2015). As a Lake Erie Crushers’ intern you will be given the opportunity to experience and partake in the financial aspect of how a professional baseball team operates. 

Summary:

Oversees all accounting and financial reporting functions. These functions include event settlements, account reconciliation, financial statement compilation and payroll. Further duties include Human Resources coordination and assisting the Accountant with budgeting and financial reporting as needed.


Qualifications:

  • Currently attending, or graduated from, an accredited university. (Business major- Accountancy)
  • Passion to work in the sports industry
  • Ability to think outside the box, and bring new ideas to the table

Summer Internship: Stadium Operations - Lake Erie Crushers (Avon, OH)

The Lake Erie Crushers, located in Avon, OH, are looking for interns for the 2015 summer baseball season (May 2015-September 2015). The Crushers are seeking college students, who are passionate about working in the sports industry to fill an internship position in stadium operations for the 2015 summer term. Interns will get an inside look at the business of baseball, gaining experience in all areas of a professional sport team’s front office operations, including ticketing, sales, marketing, media relations, promotions and merchandise. This internship will work directly with the Assistant General Manager, Operations.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Recruiting, scheduling and managing game day employees.
  • Training employees on the Crusher Policies and Procedures Manual.
  • Establishing and maintaining the day-to-day operation of our guest service plan.
  • Programming and supervising specific areas of the ballpark, such as our Kids Zone.
  • All facets of fan relations – i.e. comments, requests and suggestions.
  • Creating and maintaining a clean, safe and fun ballpark for all fans.
  • Assisting in inventory controls and purchasing to ensure that the facility is adequately stocked for all events.
  • Pursuing and coordinating all aspects of ballpark rentals such as concerts, high school and college games, etc.
  • Assisting with the management of ballpark security and implementing ideas and requests of ballpark security staff.
  • All facets of employee supervision, including janitorial services and in-game custodians/matrons.
  • Serving as the liaison between the Crushers and various subcontractors.
  • Assisting in all facets of preventative maintenance for the ballpark.

Stadium Operations Internship - Normal CornBelters (Normal, IL)

 Department: Stadium Operations

Reports to: Stadium Operations Director

Effective Dates: May 1, 2015 - End Of Season (Summer Semester)

The Normal CornBelters are looking for highly motivated individuals to contribute to the game day operations of The Corn Crib, as well as being exposed to the overall operations of a professional sports organization.

This is an unpaid position, and the individuals selected must require an internship for college credit.  As a member of the CornBelters Stadium Operations Staff, this individual will primarily focus on the areas of fan information, promotions, merchandise store, and other game day operation areas.  This position is rotating, giving all candidates the ability to experience every aspect of the Normal CornBelters on game days.  Additional learning opportunities are provided for those who request during the season.  However, this individual will not be limited in performing other duties as assigned.  Interns are expected to work the entire 52 game schedule.

Responsibilities Include (but are are not limited to):

  • Providing unwavering customer service
  • Set-up and breakdown of The Corn Crib before and after games
  • Assisting in game day operations
  • Working with front office staff and other gameday staff on maintaining ballpark and/or other duties associated with logistics of all home games

Customer Service Assistant Internship - Summer 2015 - Normal CornBelters (Normal, IL)

The Normal CornBelters are seeking an individual who is highly motivated to contribute to the customer service effort of a professional sports organization. This is a part-time internship position, and the individual selected must require an internship for college credit. As a member of the CornBelters Ticket Sales Department, this individual will primarily focus on servicing all CornBelters ticket packages (including full season tickets, partial season tickets, and various group outings) via telephone, email and in-person meetings. This individual will not be limited in performing other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
* Serving as a liaison between organization and ticket purchasers
* Providing excellent customer service to all package ticket purchasers
* Maintaining customer sales database
* Participating in community outreach programs
* Assisting with gameday operations during the season

Club House Manager Intern - River City Rascals (Ofallon, MO)

River City Rascal Clubhouse Manager Internship

A clubhouse manager for the Rascals, or any professional sports team is a major responsibility. At the major league level these clubhouse managers make 6 digits. Interning for a clubhouse manager is a great way to gain experience and potentially take over as the head clubhouse manager for the Rascals. To do this job you do not need any specific skills, just be very hard working, organized, obedient, and always be willing to help.

A general description of what we do for the Rascals on a daily basis consists of this:

  • Keeping the clubhouse for the home and away baseball team clean
  • Keeping home and away coaches room clean
  • Close and personal connections with all the players for miscellaneous things they might need or be superstitious about
  • Doing home and away team laundry after or before games (uniforms, personals, towels)
  • Assisting Athletic trainer in getting water pre-game, or any other tasks he may need help with
  • Assist grounds crew
  • Set up pre game meals, and post game meals for both teams
  • Prepare baseballs pre-game, and during game keep track if more baseballs are needed
  • Take care of umpires pre and post game
  • Be around players during game in case they need something in an emergency (new bat, glove, helmet, etc.)
  • Always be prepared to help others when asked

This internship is great to build connections in the baseball world. It is also a good way to watch many other professions in action (General Managing, Athletic Training, Marketing, Coaching). It is also a perfect internship if you are looking to make a career out of clubhouse managing.

Stadium Operations Intern Summer 2015 - River City Rascals (O'Fallon, MO)

The River City Rascals Professional Baseball Team, a member of the Frontier League, is currently in search of Stadium Operations Interns for the 2015 season. The positions available will give candidates an opportunity to gain valuable experience in professional sports through our challenging and rewarding internship program.

Stadium Operations interns will work directly with the Director of Stadium Operations and Assisant Director of Stadium Operations.

Responsibilities:

Company Description: The Rockford Aviators professional baseball team will be entering their 23rd year as a franchise as a member of the Frontier League.  Our goal is to provide fun and affordable family entertainment to baseball fans in the Northern Illinois/Southern Wisconsin area.

Internship Overview: This position is designed to give interns experience in every aspect of professional sports including, but not limited to the following: Ticket Operations, Ticket Sales, Group Sales, Merchandising, Marketing and Promotions, Community Relations, Stadium Operations, and Concessions. The Rockford Aviators expect interns to consider themselves as part of the staff. Within minor league baseball, the front office staff performs duties at all levels of management and maintenance. From time to time, staff members are required to help sell tickets, work in the gift shop, help in concessions, answer phones, interact with players and coaches, pull tarp and several other tasks in addition to their primary duties. Everyone who works in minor league baseball wears many different ‘hats’. A willingness to go above and beyond one’s normal duties is expected.

Essential Duties:
• Be available to work all Rockford Aviators home games, ability to work non-traditional hours
• Assist with the organization of events including theme nights, picnics, birthday parties, Kid’s Club, etc.
• Assist the staff with pregame and postgame activities
• Represent the Rockford Aviators at community events and home games

Additional Responsibilities:

Broadcasting Intern - Schaumburg Boomers (Schaumburg, IL)

The Schaumburg Boomers, of the independent Frontier League, are presenting a unique Broadcasting Internship for the 2015 season.  Candidates for this position will be professional, motivated and a self starter while looking to gain experience in and honing their skills as a lead broadcaster for a professional baseball team.

This position will start on or about May 1, 2015 and will run through the completion of the Schaumburg Boomers regular season (or playoffs if applicable).  The chosen candidate will be committing to the full season with the team. 

Position Description:

Broadcaster

  • Broadcast, along with Boomers lead broadcaster all 54 Home Boomers games during the season between May 15, 2015 and September 6, 2015. 
  • Broadcast all home (and potentially road) playoff games after the end of the regular season (if applicable).
  • Broadcast a potential select number of road games that are commuter trips with no stay-over.
  • Follow all applicable Minor League Baseball broadcasting guidelines.

Pre and Post Game Shows/Archives

  • Candidate selected for this position will be responsible for some content for pre and post game shows including but not limited to: Conducting pre-recorded interviews with Boomers players, visiting team players, coaches and front office staff.
  • Compile post-game audio highlights and post game wrap up show for each broadcasted game for distribution online, via e-mail to fan databases and local media outlets.

Produce and Document Advertisements/Commercials

  • Record and/or produce advertisements for the team and sponsors to be aired during broadcasts throughout the season.
  • Compile an on-air log of advertisements for sponsorship department for proof of performance affidavits.

Potential Communications Department Duties

  • Candidate will have strong written and verbal communications skills which maybe used to assist the Boomers Communications staff with the following:

Clubhouse Manager - 2015 - Traverse City Beach Bums (Traverse City, MI)

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Pre-Season

  • Uniform inventory(pants, jerseys, BP tops, belts, loops, socks)
  • Equipment inventory (bats, pine tar, bat weights, catcher’s gear, balls, etc.,)
  • Cleaning (locker rooms/bathrooms, player’s lobby/lounge, entry/exit areas, dugouts, lockers, clubby office/laundry room, umpires room.   Get all washers/dryers in proper working condition)

Training Camp

  • Be available to welcome players during player orientation – deliver clubby message
  • Issue all necessary practice uniforms and equipment to players and coaches
  • Keep water coolers filled
  • Organize batting building, make sure it is neat & clean, stocked
  • Manage energy throughout the clubhouse and batting building
  • Do all the laundry for both home and visitors including but not limited to: uniforms, personals, rags and towels
  • Keep laundry room clean and organized
  • Order product and supplies as needed and/or when directed by management
  • Collect pre-game meals and setup for coaching staff/players
  • Most post-game meals should be delivered to the clubhouse, however oversee their arrival and collect them if/when necessary
  • Clean entire clubhouse on a regular basis with cleaning to include but not limited to: sweeping each day as needed, picking up and organizing the locker rooms, lounges, indoor batting building and media room

o   Clubhouse/stadium housekeeping staff will clean the showers and bathrooms throughout the clubhouse each morning at 8 AM

o   Water only to be available to the players in lounge coolers

  • Empty all garbage everyday
  • Provide a complete clubhouse house inventory every two weeks to Management
  • Manage equipment room, keep it organized and locked

Game Day Responsibilities

IN ADDITION TO PRE-SEASON RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Pick up visiting teams laundry – have it washed and available by BP
  • Welcome visiting team bus on first day of homestand and advise players/coaches of Wuerfel Park rules
  • Get 4 dozen new baseballs to umpires each game
  • Help set up and breakdown BP equipment if needed

NOTE: Equipment issue and inventory are two key factors to making sure the Beach Bums clubhouse is run in an efficient manner.  There will be equipment issue/inventory sheets that will be the Clubhouse Manager’s responsibility to make sure all players complete.  Every time a player breaks a bat they will be held accountable for filling out a new bat request form.  The new bat request forms will be monitored by the Clubby and filed with any requests for equipment and sent to the Beach Bums Accounting Office.

CUSTOMER SERVICE:

·         All home coaching staff/trainers (post game food, towels, whatever they need within reason)

·         All visiting coaching staff/trainers (post game food, towels, whatever they want if feasible)

·         All umpires (towels and ticket requests)

·         All players’ ticket request/post Batting Practice Peanut Butter & Fruit Spread (turn pass list in no later than ½ prior to gates opening)

·         Assist in player appearances, camps, radio media requests and players’ family requests (tickets, lodging)

Customer service in in our clubhouse is vital to making sure the Beach Bums coaching staff and players feel welcome and comfortable. 

Customer service toward the visiting team is also very important.  The more customer service friendly the Clubhouse Manager is, the more money they will make.  Making sure our umpires, coaches, players and trainers are well taken care of is a reputation that the Traverse City Beach Bums have instilled in the Frontier League –earning the 2010 clubby, Denny Dame, recognition as the Frontier League Clubby of the Year honors—we would like to keep visitors to our stadium/city in the same mind set.

CLUBHOUSE MANAGER’S COMPENSATION

JOB DESCRIPTION:  Desire a college student or recent graduate, with a hunger to be in professional baseball and learn the business. Our internship is designed to provide the employee with a basic training and experience of minor league baseball. The role of this position is to assist the Clubhouse Manager (Clubby) in day to day operations including but not limited:

  • Responsible for working with Clubby receiving and unpacking equipment to start the season. You will be asked to work with the Clubby to submit a mid-season and end-of-season inventory, and must explain any missing or damaged items
  • Maintain contact with Beach Bums Clubby for all equipment needs and repairs (such as radar guns, video cameras, etc)
  • Assist Clubby as directed collecting and doing laundry
  • Clean clubhouse, including bathrooms, showers and kitchen areas, and vacuum
  • Assist with preparation of pre-game and post-game meals
  • Supply toiletries for staff and players' bathrooms and showers
  • Oversee preparation for road trips. Pack uniforms and caps for players who may join the team on the road.
  • Coordinate with staff on distribution of batting practice and game balls

  • Learn all aspects of the ticket program; season & mini plan holders, groups and individuals (seating, payments, billing) ticketing software, as well as the customer database
  • Assist the Director of Ticketing with everyday responsibilities on both game and non-game days
  • Enhance customer service and fan interaction skills through individual ticket orders both via phone and walk-up sales 
  • Build birthday and group sales under the mentorship of the Director of Ticketing

On game days, the day generally begins at 9:30 am and ends after the game (sometimes as late as or later than 11 pm).  The Beach Bums 2015 home game schedule is for 51 home games.

Compensation: College credit available; plus $500/month stipend paid bi-weekly.

The Washington Wild Things and PA Rebellion Street Team is a seasonal internship that serves to promote the Wild Things and Rebellion through various marketing and sales initiatives. Primary responsibilities include implement various marketing strategies at home games and events in the tri-state region, in addition to playing a vital role within the sales and marketing department. Street Team members must be upbeat, outgoing individuals with the ability to interact with all types of people. This position will familiarize members with the inner workings of professional sports.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide a high level of customer service to fans and sponsors.
  • Work with adults and children to ensure a fun and safe experience.
  • Ensure proper implementation of all Wild Things and Rebellion events and game day elements.

  • Assist with lead generation for sales department.
  • Work alongside the public relations and social media manager on various community initiatives.

Qualifications:

Community Relations and Promotions Responsibilities:

  • Fill donation requests and fundraising inquiries.
  • Help manage the fundraising program.
  • Receive and categorize incoming requests from community groups and coordinate the distribution of fundraising tickets.
  • Communicate with all solicitors in a timely and professional manner.
  • Help coordinate all mascot appearances, while also performing as the mascot or assisting the mascot at outside appearances.
  • Assist with daily game day entertainment, theme nights, sponsored events and daily promotions.
  • Assist with grass roots marketing efforts such as pocket schedule distribution and door hanger campaigns in the community.
  • Participate in scheduling/coordinating and attending the team’s mascot appearances and events.
  • Coordinate and oversee the Kids Club.
  • Prior to game, make sure all promotional materials are in place and ready to go for game time.

The Windy City ThunderBolts Professional Baseball Team have internship openings for the 2015 season.

Interns will be expected to report to work in early May, 2015 and work through the conclusion of the home season. (Summer interns are paid a monthly stipend and have the potential to earn commission on sales)

Evening and weekend work will be required. All interns must have local housing available for the duration of the internship.

The following summer internships are available:

Merchandising
· Serve as liaison between the team and our souvenir vendor
· Ordering, inventorying, and stocking products
· Filling walk-in and mail orders
· Game supervision and staffing at souvenir stand
· Compiling nightly sales/reconciliation reports
· Making group and advertising sales calls on behalf of the team
· Other office and ballpark support duties as necessary

Ticketing
· Serve as liaison between the team and fans wishing to purchase tickets
· Inventorying and stocking products

Stadium Operations

· Making group and advertising sales calls on behalf of the team
· Other office and ballpark support duties as necessary
